Eid-ul-Azha: Banks to remain open from June 14-16 at industrial areas

  • Some banks to be kept open on limited scale to pay garment workers' wages
  • Asked to arrange adequate security in the bank branches

Bangladesh Bank in a notification on Monday, said banks in industrial areas will be kept open on a limited scale on June 14-16 to pay garment workers' wages, bonuses, and other allowances.

Except for the industrial areas, the bank will be closed from Friday to Saturday as it is a weekly holiday, and banks will be closed on Sunday for Eid.

Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on June 17. 

The notification further added that to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonuses to the workers, employees, and officials working in the garment industry and the sale of export bills, banks have been asked to be kept open in industry-related areas on a limited scale.

The bank branches in Dhaka metropolitans, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, and Narayanganj will be kept open on a limited scale on June 14-16 to make payment of garment workers' wages, bonuses, and other allowances.

The Bangladesh Bank also instructed to keep open bank branches in the Chittagong metropolitan and industrial areas to facilitate payment of garment workers’ and received export bills.

The central bank told banks to arrange adequate security in the bank branches with coordination of local administration.
