Two Dhaka University (DU) students were allegedly beaten by the university unit Chhatra League members near Curzon Hall.

The victims are Rafia Subha Alam, a student of the Department of Women and Gender Studies, and her friend Al Imran Rawnak, a student of the Department of Botany.

The incident took place when the students were reportedly sitting near a pond adjacent to the hall on May 31.

On Sunday, Rafia submitted a written complaint to the DU proctor.

In the complaint, Rafia mentioned that around 7:30pm she and her friend were sitting beside the pond when some 12-13 people came and asked for their identities. She and her friend both informed the group that they were DU students.

She later alleged that the group asked them to leave the place and verbally abused her. When her friend protested the matter, the group beat him. Later, the group also physically assaulted her as she tried to stop them.

Rafia mentioned in the letter that she was injured and the group broke her glasses. Later the group entered the Shahidullah Hall area.

In the complaint, she primarily mentioned the names of Momin and Asif from the Department of Applied Mathematics, Srabon from the Department of Pharmacy, and Sajib from the Department of Geology.

Khademul Islam from the Department of Mathematics, Siam from the Department of Applied Mathematics, and many others from the 2021-22 academic session were also mentioned in the complaint.

When asked, the accused Khademul Islam completely denied the allegations.

However, there are accusations against Khadem of robbery and physical assault.

A student also alleged that Khademul beat up an outsider student in November last year and kept his money.

Meanwhile, Rafia declined to comment to the media.
