Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that the existing mild to moderate heat wave which is sweeping over 25 regions, may spread to several other areas.
A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over the Barisal division and the rest part of the Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions and the districts of Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noahkali, Feni and Bandarban.
Besides, the heatwave may continue for three more days.
Besides, a severe heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur and Gopalgonj.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Although the temperature in several regions including Dhaka has dropped by 1 or 2°C, the intense heat is still felt due to the high amount of water vapour in the air.
The second phase of heat alert is going on from the capital to the divisional cities.
Only 2mm of rain was recorded in Chuadanga in the last 24 hours.
Due to the increase in moisture incursion, the discomfort may persist.
The met office also forecast that rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty and squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places within the next three days.
The highest temperature in the country was recorded at 41.6°C in Mongla of Bagerhat on Wednesday.
Among other districts, Chuadanga, Jessore, and Pabna’s Ishwardi recorded the highest temperature of 41.2°C.
Meanwhile, Dhaka’s highest temperature was recorded at 39.2°C on Wednesday which was 38.4°C on Tuesday, 37.4°C on Monday and 40.4°C on Saturday. Though, the temperature is slightly lower but the heat is felt in a way similar to the last few days.
While explaining the reason for this situation, Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said: “We get sunlight for about eight to 10 hours. The flow of air is also low. Due to this, heat wave is persisting almost all over the country. Meanwhile, due to the presence of the higher amount of vapour in the air, the temperature drops slightly, but the feeling of heat remains the same.”
