Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha have said that the Awami League government has never been able to control the prices of daily essentials in the past 15 years.
The alliance leaders made the remarks at a press conference organized by the Ganatantra Mancha on Saturday at Topkhana Road in the capital.
The press conference was called in the context of the continuous rise in commodity prices, the dominance of syndicates, and the government's deceptive role.
Ganatantra Mancha announced a protest sit-in program in front of the National Press Club from 11am to 1pm on Monday.
One of the Ganatantra Mancha leaders said: “The government blames the international market for commodity price hike. However, even when prices are falling in the international market, the government has been unable to control the market price. The reason is that the government is the main patron of these syndicates.”
Another Ganatantra Mancha leader said: “The government has no effective role in ensuring an open import system and environment in the market. Therefore a few companies have controlling over the entire market. Under the government's shadow, these syndicates are pocketing vast amounts of money from the people and making their lives miserable.”
To escape from the clutches of the government-backed syndicates, the people must unite and build resistance, the leaders pointed out and said that the government sets the prices of various products in the market. However, these measures have no effectiveness in the market. Thus, it's clear that all these government activities are merely to deceive the public. Understanding these deceptions, leaders of the ruling party are now disgracefully trying to blame the opposition for the rising prices in the market.
Ganatantra Mancha leader and Chief Coordinator of Ganasanghati Andolon, Zonayed Saki, gave the inaugural speech at the press conference.
Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque, Bhasani Anusari Parishad Convener and freedom fighter, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) General Secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan and a among others also spoke at the event.
