The results of the two-day election for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) 2024-25 will be announced on Saturday.
The election management committee confirmed the information.
Earlier on Wednesday and Thursday, voting was held in 50 booths set up in the auditorium of the SCBA building from 10am. The voting continued till 5pm with a one-hour break in between.
A total of 3,261 lawyers exercised their franchise on the first day, while 2,058 lawyers cast their votes on the second day.
In total, 5,319 lawyers, out of 7,883, participated in the voting.
Meanwhile, Detective Brach (DB) of Police arrested five lawyers over a clash that took place over the announcement of the results of the SCBA election.
DB chief Harunor Rashid confirmed the matter on Saturday. The names of the arrested lawyers are yet to be disclosed.
On Friday, vote counting in the SCBA election was halted following the clash.
SCBA Chief Election Commissioner Senior Advocate Abul Khair said several lawyers were attacked in the SCBA polling centre and hence the vote counting was halted.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Nahid Sultana Juthi was elected as the secretary of SCBA.
It was known that most of the candidates and lawyers had requested the SCBA election commission to count the votes later in the day, rather than at night.
However, Nahida and her followers allegedly put pressure on the election commission to count the votes immediately and declare the results.
