Curtain falls on Ekushey Book Fair Saturday

  • Book fair was extended by two days 
  • Visitors increased due to metro rail

The month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair is set to end on Saturday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had extended the time of the book fair by two days. 

The publishers informed that due to Covid-19, severe traffic congestion and economic inflation, there have been fewer visitors to the book fair in the past few years. However, the number of visitors increased this year because of the metro rail. 

Since leap year occurs every four years, the book fair, which normally lasts 28 days, lasted for 29 days. As the 29th day was Thursday, the publishers requested to extend the book fair for two days. The prime minister permitted to extension of the book fair up to Saturday. 

The book fair will start at 11pm and will end at 9pm on the last day. 

Director General of the Bangla Academy Mohammad Nurul Huda will address the concluding ceremony at 5pm. 

KM Mujahidul Islam, member secretary of Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024 will present a report at the event. Kamal Abdul Nasser Chowdhury, the prime minister's advisor on education and culture will be present as the chief guest. 

Besides, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Khalil Ahmed will be present there as a special guest. 

The president of Bangla Academy, novelist Selina Hossain, will preside. Chittaranjan Saha Memorial Award, Munir Chowdhury Memorial Award, Roknuzzaman Khan Dadabhai Memorial Award and Artist Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Award will be given there.
