The offices in Grameen Telecom Bhaban were locked down for the security of the official documents following a discussion with responsible officials.

“There was no incident of forceful occupation,” said the officials of Grameen Bank at a press conference in headquarter on Saturday afternoon.

Prof Dr AKM Saiful Majid, chairman of the Board of Directors of Grameen Bank, said: "Those who created the law of the institution are the ones who are trying to tarnish the image of this Nobel laureate institution by using words like forceful occupation. They also threatened to take the matter to court.

“Our target is to resolve the issues sincerely while maintaining harmony within the Grameen Bank family. Today those associated with Grameen Bank's other institutions are also sincere about giving back their dues to the poor and landless members of the village. We want to ensure the rights of 10.5 million poor-landless borrower members of the bank,” said the chairman.

Dr AKM Saiful Majid also said that seven institutions named Grameen Kalyan, Grameen Telecom, Grameen Fund, Grameen Matsya Foundation, Grameen Udyog, Grameen Goods and Grameen Shakti in the Grameen Telecom Bhaban have been established with the approval of the board of directors meeting of Grameen Bank and with the money of bank.

He also said that those seven institutions are the creation of the bank.

According to the articles of association, Grameen Bank has the legal right to nominate the chairman and a certain number of directors of the institutions.

At that time, the present chairman of Grameen Bank complained that a huge amount of money had been siphoned out of the bank following a comprehensive audit.

Barrister Masood Akhter, chief legal adviser of Grameen Bank, said: "The institutions had been locked after discussing with the concerned officials of the Grameen Telecom bhaban."

On Thursday, Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed grave concern over the siege that had been ongoing since Monday, with intruders having occupied eight of the 16 establishments at Grameen Telecom Bhaban.

Drawing attention to the issue at a press conference held on the ground floor of Grameen Telecom Bhaban in Mirpur, Prof Yunus voiced his apprehensions regarding the future of these welfare-oriented organizations, including Grameen Kalyan.

Flanked by the managing directors of Grameen Kalyan and Grameen Telecom, as well as other senior officials, Prof Yunus highlighted the dire situation faced by the staff members of the building, who have endured four days of insecurity.

Prof Yunus also expressed his dismay at the complete lack of cooperation from the Shah Ali police station.
