Timeline: From arrest to release of Fakhrul, Khasru

  • Fahkrul was behind bars for 109 days while Khasru was imprisoned for 105 days

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were freed from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj after over three months on Thursday afternoon.

Shown arrested in 11 cases, Fahkrul was behind bars for 109 days, while Khasru was behind bars for 105 days. Khasru is facing 10 cases.

Their release came a day after a Dhaka court granted them bail in a case filed over an attack on the chief justice's residence. 

October 28: Massive clashes break out in Dhaka, centering on the BNP’s grand rally, when the residence of the chief justice is vandalized and several policemen are injured. A police constable was beaten to death, and two other people died in the skirmish.

October 29: Fakhrul is arrested in the case filed at Ramna police station over the attack.

November 2: Khasru is arrested at his Gulshan house.

December 7: High Court issues a rule asking the government to explain why Fakhrul should not be granted bail in the vandalism case. 

December 9: Fakhrul is shown arrested in nine more cases.

December 13: High Court directs the Dhaka CMM Court to hear bail petitions in nine cases.

January 10: Fakhrul gets bail in nine cases, but his bail petition in the case of vandalism of the chief justice’s residence is rejected by the High Court.

January 17: Fakhrul and Khasru secure bail in a case filed with the Paltan police station for sabotage.

February 14: The duo get bail in the last remaining case filed over vandalism at the chief justice’s residence.
