Update : 09 Feb 2024, 10:48 PM

Hundreds of thousands of Muslims from home and abroad offered Jummah prayers on the bank of the Turag River on Friday, the first day of the second phase of Bishwa Ijtema.

Apart from those who had gathered from all around the country at the Ijtema venue, many local Muslims—from Gazipur and nearby areas—thronged the Ijtema ground to offer Jummah prayers.

Maulana Saad Kandhalvi's eldest son, Yusuf bin Saad Kandhalvi, delivered the Jummah sermon at 1:35pm and led the prayer at 1:57pm.

Some attendees also participated in the prayers from the roofs of various high-rise buildings in Tongi, while many offered prayers on the nearby roads.

More than 6,000 foreigners from around 56 countries have joined Bishwa Ijtema.

The second phase of Bishwa Ijtema officially started on Friday.

Maulana Ilyas bin Saad Kandhalvi, youngest son of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, delivered a speech in Urdu after Fajr prayers.

Shaikh Mofle was scheduled to give a sermon after Jummah, Maulana Musharraf after Asr and India's Maulana Yusuf bin Saad after Maghrib.
