Bangladesh ranked fourth on the list of countries with the highest number of children displaced by various natural disasters between 2016 and 2021, according to a recent Unicef report.
The report defines natural disasters as phenomena such as floods, storms, droughts and fires.
According to Unicef estimates, from 2016 to 2021, a total of 43.1 million children were displaced across the world. Out of this, 22.1 million were displaced due to storms, 19.7 million due to floods, 1.3 million due to droughts and 810,000 due to fires.
The East Asia and Pacific region accounted for the largest number of displaced children–19 million in the five years or 44% of the total number of displaced children.
Meanwhile, South Asia accounted for 26% of displaced children.
The Philippines had the highest number of displacements in Asia: 9.7 million to be specific. India and China are next with 6.7 million and 6.4 million displaced children.
The number in Bangladesh, which is fourth on the list, was 3.3 million.
The number of children displaced by floods in Bangladesh stood at 950,000 and 2.3 million due to storms.
The other six countries on the list are Somalia, the US, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cuba.
