New cabinet: A closer look at changes in ministries

A new cabinet was sworn in on Thursday, with ministries distributed to its members.

Among the 37 members this time, there are several changes in the roles of ministers and state ministers. 

Here is a list of the new faces:

Ministers

Lt Col Muhammad Faruk Khan took charge as the minister of civil aviation and tourism, replacing Md Mahbub Ali.

Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali will be replacing Mustafa Kamal as the new finance minister.

Dr Hasan Mahmud took charge as the minister of foreign affairs, replacing Dr AK Abdul Momen.

Dr Dipu Moni has been relocated to the Ministry of Social Welfare while Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury was given the charge of the Ministry of Education. He was previously the deputy minister.

Dr Samanta Lal Sen will become the new health minister, replacing Zahid Maleque.

Md Abdus Shahid took charge as the minister of agriculture, replacing Dr Abdur Razzaque.

Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury took charge as the minister of housing and public works.

Md Abdur Rahman took charge as the minister of fisheries and livestock, replacing SM Rezaul Karim.

Forhad Hossain took charge as the minister of public administration.

Narayan Chandra took charge as the minister of land, replacing Saifuzzaman Chowdhury.

Abdus Salam took charge as the minister of planning, replacing MA Mannan.

Jahangir Kabir Nanak will become the new textiles and jute minister, replacing Golam Dastagir Gazi.

Md Abdur Rahman will take charge of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury will take charge of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, replacing Shahab Uddin.

State ministers

Begum Simeen Hussain Rimi took charge as the state minister for women and children affairs, replacing Fazilatun Nessa Indira.

Mohammad A Arafat took charge as the state minister for information and broadcasting, replacing Dr Hasan Mahmud.

Md Mohibur Rahman took charge as the state minister for disaster management and relief.

Kujendra Lal Tripura took charge as the state minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs.

Begum Rumana Ali took charge as the state minister for primary and mass education, replacing Md Zakir Hossain.

Shafiqur Rahaman Chowdhury took charge as the state minister for expatriates' welfare and overseas employment, replacing Imran Ahmad.

Ahsanul Islam Titu took charge as the state minister for commerce.

There will be 25 ministers and 11 state ministers in this cabinet along with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Among them, there will be two technocrat ministers this time.
