Adam Tamizi Haque, managing director of Haque Group of Industries, has been sent to a rehabilitation centre in Gulshan of the capital under police supervision for a mental health examination.

Further action against Adam Tamizi will be taken as per the report after the examination.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) chief Md Harun-Or-Rashid disclosed the information on Sunday in a press briefing at the DB office on Minto Road.

The DB chief said: "There is a case in the name of Tamiji Haque in Dakshinkhan police station. Besides, a warrant was issued against him in a case at the Ramna police station. That is why, we arrested him on Saturday. He has made incoherent comments on social media.”

Adam Tamizi was taken to the DB office at Minto Road in the capital on Saturday evening.

Commenting on Adam Tamizi’s mental health, Harun said: "After listening to him, it seems that he is mentally unstable. We don't know if there really is a mental issue. That is why we have sent him to a good psychologist.”

The DB chief also said that if he is mentally fit, they will interrogate him. “Why did he do the various activities, or who is behind it. Action will be taken against him if he does this purposefully. If the doctors call him mentally unstable, then there is nothing to do.”

Earlier, a case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act with Dakshinkhan Police in Uttara in the capital.

According to the case statement, Adam Tamizi Haque made various objectionable, defamatory and provocative statements against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also threatened to kill the Prime Minister on his Facebook page several times.

Besides, his wife also lodged a complaint against him.

He recently captured the public's attention following a series of perplexing live appearances on social media.

On November 17, Adam Tamizi claimed to be a Christian follower by cutting his beard and mustache and sought the citizenship of Israel.

He also requested the Israeli government's assistance to rescue him from Bangladesh as soon as possible.

In recent times, Adam Tamizi Haque took to Facebook to announce that a State Minister from Gazipur was attempting to seize his business, compelling him to return to Bangladesh from overseas to safeguard his enterprise.

He then conducted a series of Facebook Live sessions, during which he controversially burnt his passport and made disparaging remarks about women in leadership, the Awami League, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In response to his actions, he was swiftly relieved of his party position, and the Dhaka City North Awami League suspended him. They also declared their intent to investigate the motives behind his perplexing Facebook Live broadcasts.

When contacted, several Awami League leaders dismissed Haque's claims that the party had extorted a staggering sum of Tk1,000 crore from him as preposterous and baseless.
