Munshiganj UNO accused of leaking voters’ info

  • UNO handed over a list to a vested quarter
  • The candidate claims her followers are frightened now

Munshiganj-2 independent candidate and district unit Awami League Joint General Secretary Advocate Sohana Tahmina has accused Tongibari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Assistant Returning Officer Md Rashedujjaman of leaking information about voters loyal to the candidate.

In a press conference at Munshiganj Press Club on Saturday evening, Sohana said that she had recently submitted her nomination forms and other documents to the local election officials.

“A list of 1% of voters supporting her in the constituency was also among the submitted documents. While scrutinising the documents on Friday, 10 of the voters were selected,” she said.

Instead of keeping their information secret, the UNO handed over the list to a vested quarter that is questioning the January 7 general election, she alleged.

“As a result of the information leak, Tongibari Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Nahid Khan started threatening them with dire consequences. He even threatened to kill them and their families,” she claimed.

The candidate went on to say that her followers, especially those named on the list, were massively frightened now.

When contacted, UNO Rashedujjaman brushed aside the allegation and termed it baseless. “I know nothing about it. If she makes such a false allegation, I will file a complaint against her with the higher authorities,” he said.
