12th national polls: EC directs home ministry to transfer OCs 

  • EC asks to send proposals by December 5
  • Letter sent to public security division

The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to transfer the officers-in-charge (OC) of all police stations across Bangladesh ahead of the 12th national parliamentary election scheduled on January 7. 

A letter signed by Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman of the commission was sent to the senior secretary of the public security division of the ministry on Thursday in this regard. 

The Election Commission has decided to transfer the officers-in-charge (OCs) of all the police stations in order to conduct the upcoming election smoothly, reads the letter. 

“For this purpose, in the first stage, the transfer proposal of the OCs who have completed more than six months of service at their current workplace to another district or elsewhere, should be sent to the Election Commission by December 5.”

There are over 600 police stations in 64 districts.

The deadline for submission of nomination papers in the 12th parliamentary elections expired on Thursday

The nomination papers will be scrutinized on December 1-4, and then the candidatures can be withdrawn by December 17.

The 12th parliamentary election will be held on January 7 (Sunday) as per the polls schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on November 15.
