Election Commissioner (EC) Ahsan Habib Khan has said there is no lack of coordination in the Election Commission.
“The conducive environment expected for free, fair, participatory and festive elections has not yet been achieved. There is no lack of coordination in the Election Commission,” EC Habib said this while replying to various questions of journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Tuesday.
An election commissioner informed the media that the chief election commissioner did not hold discussions regarding the election environment with other commissioners. When asked if this indicated a lack of coordination, Ahsan Habib said: “A respected election commissioner has expressed his views. What I am emphasizing is that he is a respected figure and has voiced his opinion. There is no lack of coordination, coordination certainly exists.”
When asked if there is a fair voting atmosphere, he responded: “Why wouldn't there be? Of course, there is. I can not fathom why there wouldn't be a conducive voting environment.”
When asked that the chief election commissioner remarked that the anticipated environment is not favorable the EC said: "Has it been like this before?" He did say 'expected.' Has it ever been entirely perfect in the past?
"Of course, the commissioner was reasonable. I am just emphasizing that we are discussing the expected environment. Similar comments have been made in previous elections. The article is entirely accurate," he added.
The EC is organizing a workshop with media editors on Thursday. The CEC has also sent an idea letter along with the invitation letter sent to the guests.
"We are continuing our efforts to gain the confidence of the people to hold an acceptable election by overcoming the media's distrust of the government and the commission on the upcoming parliamentary elections," it said.
