Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has claimed the quality of life of 40 million people in Bangladesh is similar to Europeans.
"The purchasing power of 40 million of our country is on par with that of Europeans, allowing them to purchase quality products affordably," the minister added.
He made the comments at a function at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“Inflation has been on the rise in the country for several months. Inflation, especially in food products, is the highest. Most people are getting involved in additional work to meet the family's expenses. Those who do not have the opportunity to work have cut food items from their list,” the minister added.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Mahbubul Alam said: “The country is facing a shortage of dollars. If exports increased, the dollar crisis would have been resolved to some extent."
