Ticket prices for three international train routes connecting Bangladesh and India will see an increase starting Tuesday.
Bangladesh Railway attributes the decision to raise fares to the high exchange rate of the US dollar and an uptick in travel taxes.
The affected train services are the Maitree Express, serving the Dhaka-Kolkata route; the Bandhan Express, connecting Khulna to Kolkata; and the Mitali Express, operating between Dhaka and Siliguri.
A recent announcement from Bangladesh Railway outlines the adjustments in ticket prices. For the Maitree Express, the fare for an air-conditioned seat will rise by Tk105, from Tk4,795 to Tk4,900, while an AC chair will increase by Tk70, going from Tk3,530 to Tk3,600.
Similarly, for the Bandhan Express, the ticket price for an AC seat will see a Tk50 increase, from Tk2,900 to Tk2,950, and an AC chair ticket price will rise by Tk35, from Tk2,265 to Tk2,300.
Lastly, in the case of the Mitali Express, the fare for an AC berth will climb by Tk150, reaching Tk6,720 from Tk6,570. Additionally, an AC seat ticket price will increase by Tk110, going from Tk4,180 to Tk4,290, and an AC chair fare will rise by Tk75, from Tk3,785 to Tk3,860.
