Update : 05 Oct 2023, 03:33 PM

Workers of clothing factory JK Fashion, located in Mirpur's Shewrapara area of the capital, have been staging protests by blocking the road, demanding payment of three months' worth of salary arrears.

They initiated the road blockade on Thursday morning, causing inconvenience to the city's residents due to the traffic disruption.

On Wednesday, garment workers from the same factory had also staged a protest on the road with the same demand.

Mirpur Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mohsin and Kafrul police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Farukul Islam Alam confirmed the information.

OC Md Mohsin said: "We are urging the garment workers to clear the road and attempting to contact the factory owners. I am currently at the scene, and further details will be provided later."

OC Md Farukul Islam said: "For the second consecutive day, traffic has been disrupted due to the presence of garment workers on the road in the Shewrapara area. While the protesting workers' garment factory falls under the jurisdiction of Mirpur Model police station, they have positioned themselves on the road within the Kafrul police station area."

The presence of workers on Shewrapara road since the morning has forced many office-goers opting to walk to the office, while others are seen rerouting their vehicles from Mirpur and taking alternative routes.
