Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that the recent US visa restrictions would not impact any visa policies within the DMP, considering it as an internal matter of the US.
He made these remarks during a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre in Dhaka on Monday.
Emphasizing the importance of elections as the cornerstone of a democratic state system, the DMP commissioner assured that the DMP would take all necessary measures to ensure citizens can attend polling stations without fear and exercise their right to vote.
He said police will take lawful action if any political party gathers without prior permission.
He also announced the launch of the "Message to Commissioner" hotline service, aiming to enhance the quality of service in DMP police stations. This initiative allows victims direct communication with the Dhaka metropolitan commissioner through the hotline service.
Addressing the evolving patterns of crime, the commissioner acknowledged the challenges in curbing criminal activities. He highlighted the efficiency of the DMP compared to law enforcement agencies in many other countries.
Regarding traffic congestion, Habibur Rahman pointed out that it is not solely the responsibility of traffic police; other agencies are also involved.
"We see gigantic infrastructures like metro rail and elevated expressway. However, the roads have not increased, it's still only 78 square kilometres," he added.
