  • To remain in CCU, says BNP
  • No improvement in physical condition
Update : 29 Sep 2023, 08:24 PM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, once again, has been transferred to the coronary care unit (CCU) at the capital’s Evercare Hospital on Friday.

She was shifted to the CCU after the Jummah prayers.

A BNP member, requesting anonymity, said that due to Khaleda Zia's deteriorating health, she will remain in the CCU until she is transported abroad for her medical treatment.

They added that either Germany or Singapore is being considered for her advanced treatment.

The BNP chief was admitted to the hospital for medical check-ups on the night of August 9. Since then, she has been shifted to CCU multiple times due to her deteriorating health condition.

Under the leadership of cardiologist Prof Shahabuddin Talukder, a 19-member medical board has been closely monitoring her.

A doctor from the medical board mentioned last Wednesday that there has not been any improvement in Khaleda Zia's physical condition.

Alongside liver complications, her doctors are concerned about respiratory issues she is going through, he said.

The doctor also reported that fluid had been removed from Khaleda Zia's lungs and a catheter had been inserted.

Whereas fluid had to be drained every two to three days previously, it is now required daily, he added.

The complexity of her kidney issue is increasing along with liver cirrhosis, the medical board said.

Liver transplantation appears to be the only option and the BNP chief urgently needs to be sent abroad, the board added.
