The Election Commission (EC) has released new guidelines for international observers, stipulating that individuals or organizations seeking to function as observers must possess practical experience in areas such as good governance, elections, democracy, peace building, and human rights.
Shariful Alam, director of public relations at the EC, confirmed the information to media.
The updated guidelines also require applicant organizations to provide evidence of their registration with the relevant authorities in their home country.
Last month, the EC initiated the process of amending the 2018 guidelines for international observers.
According to the new guidelines, international election observers are required to submit their election observation reports within 30 days of the polling day, either by email or in hard copy, to the secretary of the EC Secretariat.
These reports should encompass observations made during the pre-poll, poll-day, and post-poll phases, and are expected to uphold the highest standards of impartiality, objectivity, and accuracy in reporting.
