A Dhaka court on Sunday sent five people, including two constables, to jail in a case lodged over the snatching of Tk20 lakh from inside a bank in the capital's Paltan area.

The arrestees were identified as Mahbub, Asif, Hridoy, Raju, and Sohel.

The two involved constables were in charge of the Demra police lines.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court after the end of their two-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the end of the probe.

On September 22, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub placed them on two-day remand each in the case.

According to the case documents, a staff of a Paltan-based office went to deposit Tk20 lakh to the IFIC Bank Paltan Branch around 2pm on Thursday. The two policemen went inside the bank and grabbed the man, saying they had a warrant against him. They dragged him outside and made him sit on a motorcycle with them.

After bringing him in front of Mugda Medical College Hospital, the two policemen dropped him there and left the place. The victim quickly informed his office and took help from the police.

From the CCTV footage found from the cameras installed inside and outside the bank, police identified Hridoy, who revealed the identities of all the criminals.

Police later arrested the two constables and recovered Tk10 lakh from them. Later, police arrested Shahajahan and Russel from the Basabo area and recovered the remaining money from them.
