The non-profit body Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) organized a dialogue on Monday where speakers said that the people of the country want peaceful elections.
International Republican Institute assisted BEI in organizing the event at a city hotel, where the speakers also opined that the polls should also be held in a manner that does not disrupt people’s lives.
President of BEI and former ambassador M Humayun Kabir at the event said that the forthcoming national polls will pave the way for Bangladesh’s future. For this, all legal political parties must come together and participate in the election.
He said that a peaceful path must be found to end the political impasse. He urged all political parties to sit for a dialogue.
Sylhet district Awami League President Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury , district BNP President Nasim Hossain, among others, spoke at the discussion.
Sylhet Press Club President Iqbal Siddique at the discussion said that the people of the country do not want conflict, they want a peaceful election. He said that despite various development activities, corruption in the country has reached new heights.
