Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday announced that a free Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine distribution initiative is going to be launched on October 4.

The information was shared at an orientation workshop titled “Orientation Workshop for Chief Editors Journalists/Media Professionals on HPV Vaccine Awareness Building” at the National Institute of Mass-communication (NIMCO).

The vaccination program will initially start from the Dhaka division, where 2.5 million vaccines are planned to be registered.

The DGHS said they are planning to vaccinate 10 million children nationwide in phases.

“Girls aged between 10-14 years, or those studying from grades 5 to 9, will receive the vaccine through registration at their school's vaccination centre,” said the DGHS.

Moreover, besides school centres, government health centres will also serve as sub-stations for vaccination, it shared, adding that the vaccine will be given in two stages.

The next phase is set for April and August of the following year in Chittagong, Barisal, and Rajshahi.
