Weeklong art exhibition of Akhtar Ahmed Rasha begins in Dhaka

A weeklong art exhibition by noted sculptor Akhtar Ahmed Rasha, titled “Drifting to the Root Drifting to the Love”, began at the Safiuddin Shilpalay in Dhanmondi Thursday. 

The artist is an expatriate Bangladeshi who used driftwood as the medium of his art to exhibit topics such as the Liberation War, women empowerment and beauty. Rasha has held several exhibitions in the US. 

At the inauguration of the event, the artist said: “I wanted to use driftwood from the Atlantic coast to depict different aspects of the way of life in Bangladesh. I am very happy to have given importance to our great liberation war, especially to the friends of Bangladesh outside the country.”

Some 53 artworks have been featured in the exhibition which will be open for visitors from 11am to 7pm until next Wednesday.

Organized by Studio Vertical, this exhibition was inaugurated by eminent cultural personality and former minister for Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor while Cultural organizer Abul Khair Litu was also present on the occasion. 

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University Prof Nisar Hossain presided over the program. Public Service Commission Member Prof Dr Sayed Mohammad Golam Faruk, Bengal Foundation Director General Professor Luva Nahid Chowdhury, and former professor at Jahangirnagar University Prof Shafin Ahmed, among others, spoke at the event. Noted poetry reciter Nutfa Binta Robbani was the presenter.
