The Detective Branch (DB) of police is interrogating several Dhaka Customs House staffers for their alleged involvement in the theft of 55kg of gold worth over Tk45 crore from the organization’s Dhaka airport warehouse.
DMP Uttara Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Touhidul Islam confirmed the matter.
DB Uttara Division Deputy Police Commissioner Akram Hossain said: "Some people have been brought to the DB office on suspicion of being involved in the gold theft. They are being interrogated."
Dhaka Customs House Assistant Revenue Officer Mohammad Sohrab Hossain earlier filed a case over the gold stolen from the warehouse.
According to the FIR, during a regular patrol, an airport official noticed that the lock of a vault was broken, and immediately notified his seniors around 9pm on Saturday.
On receiving the information, senior officials visited the spot and identified that a part of the vault had been broken into with a sharp object.
The customs officials later identified that around 55.51 kilograms of gold, seized in different drives from 2020-2023, was missing.
The customs house, formed a five-member probe body led by a joint commissioner to investigate the incident.
