Traffic and toll collections on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway increased on Tuesday, the second day of the inauguration of the airport's Kawla to Farmgate section.
Up to 6am on Tuesday, 27,121 vehicles used the road, generating a toll revenue of Tk21.97 lakh.
This is in contrast to the first day, which saw 22,805 vehicles and a collection of Tk18.52 lakh.
Same as Monday, most of the vehicles plying the expressway were private cars, AHMS Akter, project director of Dhaka Elevated Expressway said on Tuesday morning.
He informed that on the first and second days, over 90% of vehicles on the expressway were private cars.
Besides, some 14,300 vehicles commuted from the airport’s Kawla to Farmgate via Banani-Mohakhali, 3,105 from Kuril to Farmgate via Banani, 2,988 from Banani to Kawla via Kuril and 6,728 vehicles travelled from Farmgate via Mohakhali-Banani-Kuril to Kawla.
Authorities opened the section from the airport to Farmgate of Dhaka Elevated Expressway for vehicular movement at 6am on Sunday.
It takes only 10-12 minutes to reach Farmgate from the airport through the expressway.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 22.5km stretch of Dhaka Elevated Expressway at 3:30pm on Saturday.
She travelled on the expressway, making the first toll payment at the airport toll plaza.
