Thirteen national cultural federations in Bangladesh have said that foreign comments on Bangladesh's judiciary are unacceptable.
In a joint statement on Friday, they stated that they consider the open letter of 160 prominent individuals from different countries to stop the judicial proceedings of the case filed against Nobel laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus as a direct interference on the independent judiciary system of a country, reads a press release.
The statement highlighted that 160 prominent individuals from various countries recently urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to halt the proceedings against Dr Yunus, initiated by employees of his own establishment.
“Their call is deemed as direct intervention in the rule of law and the independent judiciary of a country,” the media release read.
The statement expressed opposition to such "unlawful and prejudiced" remarks.
It further stated: "It is now the responsibility of these 160 individuals to identify which sections of the law the Supreme Court of the country is violating in the 168 cases against Dr Yunus.”
“If they fail to do so, it is logical to assume that these individuals signed the statement without full knowledge or were influenced in some way," it added.
The cultural federations have also called upon the government to investigate if there's any conspiracy against Bangladesh associated with the statements of these 160 individuals.
