The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh's (ULAB) General Education Department (GED) held a seminar titled "Islam is a Foreign Country" on August 23, 2023.
The keynote speaker was Dr Taimur Reza, humanities teaching fellow at the University of Chicago, Illinois, US, says a press release issued on Monday.
The event commenced with an opening address by Prof Imran Rahman, vice chancellor of ULAB.
Dr Taimur's presentation delved into the historiography of South Asian Muslim politics, examining three fundamental categories: "Communalism," "separatism," and "syncretism."
Additionally, he challenged the conventional notion of treating Islam and local culture as unchanging entities in the context of subcontinental history.
The event was participated by the scholars, historians, researchers, guests, ULAB faculties and students, among others.
