The father of a student of grade III allegedly assaulted a female teacher in broad daylight over a trivial matter in Manirampur municipality of Jashore on Wednesday.
Victim Salima Akter, assistant teacher of Durgapur Govt Primary School in the municipality, filed a case accusing the student’s father Mizanur Rahman with Manirampur police station.
Mizanur Rahman is the president of the Durgapur unit Jubo League.
Witnesses said the teacher asked student Sifat not to use a basin in the washroom, but he used it despite the instruction. Later, the teacher rebuked him over the matter.
Enraged by it, Sifat abused the teacher and informed his parents. The student’s father Mizanur, mother, and grandmother rushed to the school and physically assaulted her.
The teacher said: “At one point, Sifat’s father slapped, punched and kicked me randomly. He then grabbed a fistful of my hair and dragged me out of the classroom and into the school grounds. On the east side of the field, he started kicking and punching me again. Later, teachers from the secondary school came and stopped Mizan.”
On information, Upazila Education Officer Ismat Ara Parveen and others rushed to the school.
Terming the incident as unexpected, she said the higher authorities were informed of the matter to punish the accused.The school headmaster was also asked to submit a report explaining the matter within three working days.
Ahmed Shafi, president of the upazila unit Government Primary Teachers Association, said they held an emergency meeting in this connection.
Expressing regret, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jakir Hossain said they directed the authorities concerned to take measures.
Manirampur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Moniruzzaman confirmed the filing of the case saying that they were conducting drives to arrest the accused.
