NSU observes National Mourning Day

  • Flag hoisted at half-mast
  • Art exhibition, discussion scheduled for Wednesday

North South University (NSU) observed a two-day program in honour of the 48th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

The commemoration ceremony started at the break of dawn with the national flag being hoisted and flown at half-mast at precisely 5:34am on Tuesday. A wreath-laying ceremony took place at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman situated at 9am at NSU.

On behalf of NSU’s Board of Trustees, Professor Atiqul Islam placed the flower wreaths. 

Then NSU Vice Chancellor Professor Atiqul Islam and Economics Department Professor Dr M Ismail Hossain also placed flower wreaths.

Business and Economics School Dean Professor Dr Helal Ahammad, Humanities and Social Sciences School Dean Professor Dr Abdur Rob Khan, Engineering and Physical Sciences School Dean Professor Dr Javed Bari, Health and Life Sciences School Dean Professor Dr Hasan Mahmud Reza, teachers, administrative directors, officials, and chairpersons of various departments of NSU also placed the flower wreaths.

A teacher-student delegation of NSU placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 at 3pm.

On Wednesday, NSU will host an art exhibition and discussion meeting, and special prayers will be organized on the university campus. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will be present as chief guest. 

Former Dhaka University vice chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, also Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) chairman, will join the program as the special guest.
