The party also staged a sit-in at the capital's Bangla Motor area for around an hour

Failing to lay siege to the Election Commission, leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parisad led by Nurul Haque Nur gave a seven-day ultimatum to the commission to reconsider the registration of several political parties.

The party was stopped by police while gathering near the Election Commission building in Dhaka's Agargaon on Tuesday.

The party also staged a sit-in at the capital's Bangla Motor area for around an hour.

Nurul Haque Nur said: “The Election Commission did not register our party even after fulfilling the democratic demands and conditions. It's unfair.”

Addressing the police, Nur said they have only shown them a trailer of the movements they are planning to stage. “You will see more on July 27. Then the final game will begin.”

The Election Commission (EC) on July 16 decided to register two new political parties -Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNM) and Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP).

Ten parties, including Gono Adhikar Parishad led by Nur, were left out of the race to get registration.
