Update : 20 Jul 2023, 11:25 PM

Power production at the Rampal thermal power plant in Bagerhat has resumed after four days.

The production, which was halted due to a turbine malfunction, resumed on Thursday.

Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) Managing Director Sayeed Ekram Ullah said the Rampal thermal power plant was closed on Sunday due to a turbine malfunction.

“Engineers of the Indian company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited started repairing the turbine. After the work was completed, the boiler of the plant was fired at 10:45am on Thursday. Electricity is being supplied to the national grid since 2pm,” he added.

Earlier, the power generation was suspended from June 30 to July 9 for maintenance work. It opened on July 10 after that.

But after six days, the power supply to the national grid stopped on July 16 due to a turbine malfunctioning.

Even before this, the Rampal coal-based thermal power plant had been closed several times due to various problems including mechanical faults and maintenance.
