River Police have detained six people over the incident of a waterbus capsizing in Buriganga on Monday.
The waterbus sank on Sunday after a sand-laden bulk carrier rammed it in the Buriganga River near the Telghat area of Keraniganj.
The arrestees are the bulk carrier's master, Md Shariful Islam, 35, driver Md Ansar Ali, 37, helmsman Md Sojib Sarder, 27, sailor Md Siam Bepari, 20, Md Safiul Gazi, 22, and chef Md Masud Munshi, 48, confirmed Sadarghat River Police Sub-Inspector Mehdi Hassan Maruf.
Preparations for filing a case over this incident are underway at the Keraniganj police station, he said.

“They were apprehended from different areas near the Sadarghat. They will be handed over to the police station once a case is filed,” he added.
The waterbus was carrying approximately 60 passengers when it sank. While many were able to swim to shore, several people remained missing.
Three units from the fire service and a rescue team from the Coast Guard conducted rescue operations.
So far, four people have died in the incident, and eight people have been rescued alive.
