In response to the announcement of the "Desh Bachate Tarunnya" rally led by Jubo Dal on July 9, Jubo League has called for a procession titled "Turunya Jayjatra" in Sylhet.
Jubo League and Jubo Dal are the youth wings of the ruling Awami League and the opposition BNP, respectively.
Jubo League's march aims to counter the influence of the BNP's three sections and affiliated organizations.
The Jubo Dal and other Jubo League programs will take place at Court Point in the city, approximately half a kilometre away from Sylhet Government Aliya Madrasah ground.
Jubo Dal President Sultan Salauddin Tuku, who is currently in Sylhet, expressed their goal to target 4.7 million new voters across the country and unite them.
He said: "We have received responses from young people who have been unable to vote for the past 15 years, those who have been deprived of their rights, those who are facing joblessness due to party affiliation, and those who are being subjected to torture. We hope that all young individuals will attend this gathering."
Tuku further mentioned that the party's secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will be the chief guest at their rally.
Sylhet Metropolitan Jubo League General Secretary Mushfiq Jaigirdar stated that they would hold a youth rally on July 9 at Court Point in Sylhet, titled "Tarunya Jayjatra."
He clarified that the gathering aims to foster the country's development and progress under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina and promote the transition from Digital Bangladesh to Smart Bangladesh. He emphasized that it is not a counter-program.
The general secretary of Jubo League, Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, will attend the program as the chief guest, organized by the district and metropolitan Jubo League.
BNP's campaign
Alongside the Sylhet district and metropolitan BNP, the party's affiliates Jubo Dal, Swechasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal are conducting various campaigns in the city and district in preparation for the youth gathering.
Party leaders are energizing activists by distributing leaflets and holding meetings in support of the rally. Central party leaders have also joined the campaign to provide guidance and motivation. They have been actively campaigning at the metropolitan, district, upazila, and union levels for the past few days.
Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, president of Sylhet district BNP, mentioned that the rally will primarily be organized under the banner of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechasebak Dal.
Following the success of the rally, BNP leaders and activists, along with members of other organizations, will distribute mass communication leaflets across different locations in the department. He predicted that millions of people would attend the rally.
In response to a question, he stated that they would participate in the gathering as facilitators and listen to the speeches of oppressed and deprived youth. Regarding the permission for the assembly venue, he mentioned that they obtained verbal permission from the deputy commissioner (DC) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP). However, efforts to contact the DC of city SB, who handles this matter, were unsuccessful.
BNP initiated its youth rally programs in six divisions, starting from Chittagong.
