State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed on Thursday said most of the buildings at the city's nearby Basila, Hemayetpur, and Sugandha Housings have been constructed illegally and without permission from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) due to a lack of manpower.
He said this while responding to a tabled question from Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam.
The minister said that in view of the increase in manpower after 2022, building supervision has increased significantly in the mentioned areas.
He said that taking this advantage some unscrupulous people might be collecting money from the owners of the illegally constructed buildings in the name of Rajuk.
The state minister, however, said no complaint has been received against any employee of Rajuk in charge of those areas regarding their involvement in collecting money from the building owners in exchange for halting construction work.
Proper measures will be taken against the responsible persons as per rules if any clear complaint is received in this regard.
