Ensuring fairness: DMP chief vows measures for Dhaka-17 by-polls

He emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order for a fair electoral process

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure fair elections in Dhaka-17 by-polls, following the directives of the Election Commission (EC). 

He emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order for a fair electoral process. 

He made these remarks during a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal at the election building on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Commissioner Faruq said that the DMP would prioritize law and order and allocate resources based on the level of risk in different areas. 

He expressed confidence in the DMP's ability to deploy adequate forces and take necessary actions to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election in accordance with the EC's guidelines.

The commissioner emphasized the police's commitment to cooperate with the EC and maintain a neutral stance throughout the election process. 

He reiterated that the role of the police is to control the law and order situation, allowing voters to exercise their rights smoothly. 

He further assured that the police would strive to demonstrate 100% neutrality and invited observers to monitor the upcoming July 17 election to assess their impartiality.

Representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, law enforcement, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials were present during the meeting.
