Bangladesh Road Transport Owners' Association on Friday instructed transport companies not to charge extra fares from passengers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Additionally, the association ordered that unfit buses from the capital cannot be sent outside the city on reserved trips.
These instructions were given in an emergency meeting at the central office of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association on Tuesday, Samdani Khandkar, office secretary of the association said.
The instruction includes that buses cannot be operated by driver's assistants or helpers without a valid license.
According to the board's decision, instructions have been given to 120 transport companies, said Samdani Khandkar.
The companies have been asked to form a “vigilance team” consisting of owners and workers to maintain peace and order at the bus terminals including Sayedabad and Mohakhali.
The team members will work in liaison with the local administration, he said.
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah chaired the meeting.
