Around 3 million people from Dhaka and its neighbouring districts will go home by waterways ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, according to a report of the non-government organization National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways.

On Sunday, NCPSRR President Haji Mohammad Shahid Mia and General Secretary Ashish Kumar Dey summarized the report in a press release sent to the media.

Approximately 300,000 Eid holidaymakers will pass through Narayanganj river port. The remaining 2.7 million will go through various other terminals, including the Sadarghat terminal. So this time too there will be huge pressure on Sadarghat.

According to the report, about 15 million people leave the greater Dhaka region comprising Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj during Eids. Of them, 20% (3 million) leave Dhaka by waterways. Almost 100% of them head towards the coastal districts of Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Chandpur, Shariatpur and Madaripur.
