Rafiqul Islam (Punjabi symbol) is contesting for the post of general councillor in Ward No 4 in Talora Municipality of Dupchanchia upazila in Bogra while his daughter Sharmin Akhtar (Pineapple symbol) is contesting for the reserved councillor post in Ward No 4, 5 and 6.
The father and daughter on Wednesday said that there will be no effect on the voters regarding their rivalry in the election.
Voter of ward number 4 of Talora municipality Abu Bakkar Siddique said: “Anyone can contest the vote. In this case, as the father is contesting for the post of general councillor and the daughter is contesting for the post of reserved councillor, the voters will decide on this matter.”
General councillor candidate Rafiqul Islam said: “I lost in the last municipal election by a small margin. Since then, I have been by the side of the people of this ward. Now, I hope people will elect me.”
“Sharmin Akhtar is contesting the polls on her husband's advice and contesting the election for the post of a female reserved councillor which will not affect my votes,” he added.
Sharmin Akhtar, a councillor candidate for the reserved seat number 2 (wards 4, 5 and 6) said: “I have been beside the people of the three wards for a long time with the motivation of my husband. I am contesting the election because the people want it. My father is vying for people's love with his merits.”
