Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Wednesday said that the total number of sacrificial animals is 12,536,333 for Eid-ul-Azha this year.
This year the potential demand for sacrificial animals is 10,394,739. Accordingly, this year there is a surplus of 2,141,594, he added.
“This year, we have an additional 411,944 cattle compared to last year,” said the minister after a meeting.
There are 4,843,752 cows and buffaloes, 7,690,000 goats and sheeps and 2,581 other species of animals for Eid-ul-Azha, he said.
An inter-ministerial meeting was held at the secretariat on Wednesday to determine the demand for sacrificial animals, to supply them and ensure free movement of transport to remote areas of the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
The minister also said that this time there are 895,454 sacrificial animals in Dhaka division, 2,053,128 in Chittagong division, 4,511,614 in Rajshahi division, 1,511,708 in Khulna division, 493,206 in Barisal division, 410,225 in Sylhet division, 1,962,951 in Rangpur division and 698,047 in Mymensingh division.
