Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) Managing Director Taqsem A Khan on Thursday said that there is a water supply crisis in five of 10 zones of the agency in Dhaka due to loadshedding, before advising the residents of the capital to use less water than usual to overcome the crisis.
He was speaking at a press conference organized on the ongoing water crisis at Wasa Bhaban in the Karwan Bazar area.
The Wasa boss said: “Water supply is normal in five of our ten zones. The remaining five zones are having problems. Dhaka Wasa is not able to operate its pumps due to a lack of regular electricity supply. As a result, it is not possible to extract water from the deep tube wells. Meanwhile, he said that the water problem in the Bashundhara area will be resolved by Friday.”
Advising the people of Dhaka to use less water to overcome the crisis, Taqsem said: "Instead of using running water during this crisis, use water from containers."
Apart from this, if the situation deteriorates, the water supply will be cut off in an area for eight hours and given to other areas through rationing.
The Dhaka Wasa MD said water is being supplied through Wasa vehicles to the areas where there is a water problem.
Some 48 water trucks of Dhaka Wasa are working in this regard. Water is being supplied through 17 trolley cars for narrow roads.
Taqsem A Khan said that due to power outages, there is also a problem in filling the Wasa vehicles with water.
