May get relief from heatwave as BMD predicts rain in 24 hours

The highest temperature was recorded at 41.1°C in Dinajpur

Amid the scorching heatwave continuing for the past few days, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted rain or thundershowers in the six divisions including Dhaka in the next 24 hours commencing from 6pm on Sunday.

"Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country," according to a BMD bulletin on Sunday night.

A severe heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Nilphamari and Dinajpur. Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and the rest parts of Rangpur divisions and the districts of Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali and Bandarban and it may continue, reads the bulletin.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, the BMD said.

The highest temperature was recorded at 41.1°C in Dinajpur, while the minimum temperature was 23.5°C in Netrokona.

The highest 13mm rainfall was recorded in Kishoregan's Nikli and Rangpur respectively.
