Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said a proposal will be made to decrease the price of pens, among other materials.
"In the current fiscal year, the allocation to the education sector has increased in line with the GDP rate. Once the ongoing mega projects are concluded, I firmly believe that we can initiate mega projects within the education sector," said the minister at an event in Chandpur on Saturday.
The price of pens may see a hike in the proposed budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Currently, there is no value-added tax (VAT) imposed on pen production, but there is a proposal to introduce a 15% VAT on pens which could lead to an increase in the price of pens.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday unveiled a Tk7,61,785 crore proposed national budget for the 2023–24 fiscal year in the national parliament.
