Minister: Efforts must continue to reduce number of dengue patients to zero

He emphasized on increasing the use of technology to prevent the spread of dengue

Although Bangladesh's dengue situation is better than many neigbouring countries, efforts must continue to reduce the number of dengue patients to zero, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Md Tajul Islam has said.

"We all should continue this effort and build a social movement to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding in stagnant water during the monsoon season,” he said while addressing as the chief guest at an event on Thursday.

The minister also emphasized increasing the use of technology to prevent the spread of dengue, river pollution, traffic congestion, corruption prevention, and other challenges. 

Tajul Islam also highlighted various initiatives taken by the government to prevent dengue disease.

There has been an increase in dengue cases across the country recently.

Fifty-two people were hospitalized with dengue in 24 hours till Thursday morning. Of the new patients, 41 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it.

So far, the DGHS has recorded 1,620 dengue cases, 1,429 recoveries, and 13 deaths this year.
