Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said that troubleshooting is executed immediately after any problem is found in the EVMs.
“If the machine ever malfunctions, our technicians fix it immediately within 5-10 minutes,” said on Thursday.
In general, he claimed, there is no more information about technical problems coming from anywhere.
The polling of Gazipur City Corporation began at 8am on Thursday.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General Retired Ahsan Habib Khan, Election Commissioner Md Alamgir, Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana, and Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman are monitoring the election from the control room.
EC Md Alamgir said that the voter attendance has increased in the three hours of polling and that the polling was going on peacefully.
He told reporters: “We are watching on CCTV cameras that the voting is going in a disciplined manner. According to reports by law enforcement and EC's own observers, polling is going well so far (first two and a half hours). Judicial and executive magistrates are also very active.”
The election commissioner said that appropriate action was taken after learning that some CCTV cameras did not work in the morning, along with allegations of irregularities and expulsion of agents and slowness of EVMs were found in some centres.
Regarding the complaint of independent candidate Zayeda Khatun's agent being expelled, the election commissioner said that he had not received any news of irregularities yet.
“There was no complaint of expulsion of polling agents. Complaints should be reported to the returning officer. There are instructions to investigate any complaint,” he added.
Regarding the shutting off of the CCTV cameras, he said: “The cameras were not working because there was no internet anywhere. However, the cameras were recording, we have information and video footages.”
Mentioning that although the polling environment is basically good, some people are still being brought under the law due to chaos, he said: “Even if no arrests have been made yet, information of two or four people may come. Integrated field level information will be available, official reports will come to us. Those who commit crimes will be brought under the law.”
