The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recommended to file a case against 10 people, including Wasa Managing Director Taqsem A Khan, on charge of embezzling about Tk2 crore by illegally appointing two directors.
"The commission will file a case soon," a senior ACC official, requesting anonymity, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday afternoon.
Wasa Director (Development) Abul Kashem and Director (Technical) AKM Shahid Uddin were appointed in the 252nd meeting in 2018 which was attended by the seven accused board members as well, the commission mentioned in the report.
The commission found that Wasa board appointed them on the recommendations of Taqsem in violation of the Dhaka Wasa Act-1996 and Dhaka Wasa Service Rule-2010.
Besides, the Wasa authorities paid them around Tk2 crore in total as monthly salary so far, which is punishable under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
However, the commission also found that Taqsem renewed the job tenure of Kashem and Shahid illegally last year.
ACC Commissioner Mozammel Haque Khan said: “We are reviewing the recruitment and other scams related to Taqsem. A case will be filed as per the commission procedures.”
