The High Court has granted bail to Hefazat-e-Islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque in three cases filed on charges of sabotage in Siddhirganj and Sonargaon police stations of Narayanganj.
A High Court bench consisting of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Ahmed Sohel granted the bail application on Tuesday.
Mamunul Haque's lawyers told the media that there are 41 cases against the former leader of Hefazat-e-Islam. He got bail in 17 of those cases. He got bail in three more cases on Tuesday. Mamunul Haque will have to get bail in 21 more cases for his release.
At least 17 people were killed during violence in Chittagong's Hathazari and Brahmanbari following clashes in Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram on March 26, 2021.
Earlier on 18 April, 2021, Mamunul Haque was arrested at Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area.
On April 3, 2021, Mamunul Haque was held by Awami League activists for staying with an unknown woman at Sonargaon Royal Resort in Narayanganj.
Later, activists and supporters of Hefazat-e-Islam came and vandalized the resort and took him away.
On April 30, the woman filed a rape case against Mamunul Haque at Sonargaon police station.
However, Mamunul Haque later claimed that the woman was his second wife.
Mamunul Haque came to the discussion several times after Hefazat's mayhem in the capital in May, 2013.
