Health minister: Dengue cases increasing

He urges to keep environment clean and ensure that water does not accumulate in the roof of the house and in the yard

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that for some days, dengue infection has been increasing again in Bangladesh.

He said this while addressing the official inauguration of World Immunization Week at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

The health minister said: “To avoid dengue, one should be free from mosquito bites. The surrounding environment should be kept clean. Care should be taken to ensure that water does not accumulate in the roof of the house and in the yard.”

He said: “Like every year, this year too, Immunization Week has been celebrated across the world. We vaccinate 25 million children every year. In total, more than 10 diseases are vaccinated against. 1,20,000 centres have been established for this program. We also vaccinate women aged 15-49 years. They are also vaccinated against 10 types of diseases.”

Highlighting the success data, the minister said that currently 95% of children have been vaccinated, which was 52% in 2001. Besides, the vaccination rate among women is 80%.
