The Chittagong-bound Karnaphuli Express train's engine derailed in Comilla's Shashidal Railway Station on Wednesday afternoon without causing any injuries.
"The four wheels of the Karnaphuli train engine derailed as the station master made a mistake in fixing the point. The rescue train is coming towards the spot from Akhaura," Railway Comilla Senior Assistant Engineer Liaquat Ali Majumder said.
The communication between the Dhaka-Chittagong route remained normal as the engine of the train derailed on the loop line of the rail route.
However, Comilla Railway Station Master Mahbubur Rahman said: "Dhaka-Chittagong, Sylhet-Chittagong and Dhaka-Noakhali trains are being disrupted. A rescue train from Akhaura has left for the spot. It will take time for train movement to return to normal."
Meanwhile, many passengers are stranded at Comilla station. The Paharika Express train bound for Chittagong was supposed to be at Comilla station at 4:35pm but it did not reach Akhaura till the time of writing the report.
Chittagong-bound Chattala Express is supposed to be in Comilla at 5:50pm but there is no update for that either. Godhuli Express is scheduled to leave Comila for Dhaka direction at 6:30pm. There is concern about this train also leaving the station on time.
